Manjushri (Gentle Glory or Gentle Voice) is the Bodhisattva of wisdom. In Mahayana teachings, he is considered a disciple of Shakyamuni and a Bodhisattva, while in tantric teachings, he is regarded as a fully enlightened Buddha. He has many incarnations. In the thangka, the main form of Manjushri depicted is Kumarabhuta. The Bodhisattva is seated in the vajra posture, holding the sword of wisdom in his right hand and a lotus in his left, upon which the Prajnaparamita scripture rests. At the center of the upper part of the thangka is the primordial Buddha Vajradhara, with bodhisattvas to his right and left. In the lower part, there are images of Dharma protectors: Vaishravana and Yamaraja.
