Vaishravana, or the Son of the Famous (Vishrava), is a figure who, according to legend, made a vow to the Buddha to assist living beings and to bestow blessings upon those who pray to him. He is depicted accompanied by eight horsemen, each holding a mongoose in their left hand. Above Vaishravana is the bodhisattva Vajrapani.
