Avalokitesvara – The Lord Who Looks Down – is the bodhisattva of compassion, who vowed to listen to the prayers of all beings possessing the nature of a buddha, and thus renounced his own buddhahood. He is depicted in many forms. Chaturbhuja Avalokitesvara is the embodiment of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum.
