In the tradition of the Gelug school, Pehar Gyalpo is considered the most important worldly protector of the teachings – a dharmapala. The thangka depicts Pehar – white-bodied, three-faced, six-armed (with two main hands drawing a bow), riding a lion. He is surrounded by four companions: Shingchachen, Dralha Kyachikbu, Monbuputra, and Gyanjin.
