Tara (Sanskrit) or the Liberator, is the main goddess and deity (bodhisattva) of Buddhism. She is known in many forms. In the thangka, White Tara, or Sita Tara, is depicted, symbolizing exceptional purity and transcendent wisdom. She is also known as the Wheel that Fulfills Wishes. A popular form of Tara, she is the goddess of longevity. She is portrayed with seven eyes (three on her face, and on her hands and feet). In the lower part of the thangka, Mahakala and Bektse are depicted (from left to right).
