The sculpture is associated with Saint Jacek Odrovonzh (1183 - 1257) - a Dominican monk and missionary, the founder of a church and monastery in Kyiv. According to the legend, he saved the sculpture of the Mother of God from Kyiv surrounded by the Mongols and moved it to Halych.
