The object is round in shape and features small handles on the sides. It is adorned with an image of the goddess Demeter, who holds a dish of fruits in one hand and a vessel of water in the other. On the other side, a woman holds a dish in her right hand while scattering grain with her left. Red-figure pottery emerged in ancient Greece in the first half of the 6th century BC. The founder of this technique is considered to be the Attic vase painter Andokides from the period of late Archaic art. The essence of this technique involved completely painting the object with a black background while leaving the figures and ornaments in the natural light color of the pottery.
