It is round in shape and features small handles on the sides, covered in black lacquer with two scenes from Greek mythology depicted against it. One scene shows Prometheus giving fire to humanity, while the other features people dressed in togas. Red-figure pottery emerged in ancient Greece in the first half of the 6th century BC. The founder of this technique is considered to be the Attic vase painter Andokides from the period of late Archaic art. The essence of this technique involved completely painting the object with a black background while leaving the figures and ornaments in the natural light color of the pottery.
